Spring Fever!!

Spring Fever at the Littlestown Library
It’s almost spring, and for many of us, that is a glorious thing.  As Mark Twain wrote, “It is spring fever.   That is what the name of it is.  And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you DO want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”  As spring begins, consider stopping by the Littlestown Library.  Use our resources to create a new garden, plan a trip, check out an exercise or cooking DVD, and find help in pursuing your goals this spring.
Our monthly computer classes are starting up after a winter hiatus.  Introduction to Word will be held Tuesday, March 19th at 4:00 p.m.  Call or stop by to preregister for the class.  Small class size allows for a comfortable, relaxed learning situation, and a different class is offered each month.
Recently, a number of library patrons have been requesting the movies which won a 2013 Academy Award.  If you didn’t make it to the theater to see these movies, know that the Adams County Library System owns copies of Argo, Brave, Skyfall, and The Words.  Furthermore, Anna Karenina, Django Unchained, The Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Les Miserable, and Zero Dark Thirty are all on order, and may  be placed on hold.  All DVDs check out for 3 weeks and are available at no cost.   Interestingly, at least 6 of the winners are based on books this year.  The books  “Les Miserables,”” Anna Karenina,”” The Hobbit”, “Life of Pi,” “Team of Rivals:  The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” by Doris Kearns Goodwin, and  “The Master of Disguise” by Tony Mendez (partial inspiration for Argo) are all in the ACLS system.
Parents, grandparents, and caretakers of preschool aged children, note that we have a new time and a new element for our weekly storytime.  We now meet at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday, and, following the reading of stories, adults and children create a craft together.  Join us next week for a storytime with a St. Patrick’s Day theme.  No registration is required.
The Friends of the Littlestown Library are involved in two fundraisers this spring.  First, on April 26th and April 27th at 7:30 p.m. the teachers of the Littlestown Are School District will present the play “The Surprising Story of the Three Little Pigs.” It will take place at the Littlestown Senior High School, and proceeds from the refreshments will benefit the Friends of the Littlestown Library.
Second, mark your calendars for the Friends of the Littlestown Library book sale.  This sale will be a large one, including all books donated to the library, and will be held on May 18th from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 2075 Fish and Game Road in Littlestown.  There will also be refreshments for sale.
The Littlestown Library is located at 232 North Queen Street.  The library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2-8 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays, from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.   The phone number is 359-0446.
