Have a Toddlin' Time and Super 2nd Saturday at Littlestown Library

Have a Toddlin’ Time and Super 2nd Saturday at Littlestown Library
Summer days are quickly becoming those Good Ole Days here in Littlestown.  You know what that means … a parade full of fun floats, hot dogs in the breeze, cotton candy adrift on a stick, with fantastic fun for all.  Be there; see the large hair of our outrageously mad scientist on board the Littlestown Library float.  Applaud for our top summer readers as they share a book with support dog Meeko and her handler.   What’s this? Dogs at the library? Visit the library and Friends booth on Saturday to hear about our new fall series “Reading with Dogs”.  We thank the Friends of the Littlestown Library for their energy, enthusiasm and strong support with the fantastic float and festive booth.
Good Ole Days roll right into school days, where more book fun awaits Alloway Creek Intermediate School students and families. Our new joint events and programs provide more ways to learn and enjoy reading at the Intermediate School and at the Littlestown Library. Families can look forward to “a book and a movie” at the library – read a book together, see the movie on our large screen wall, and agree to disagree on which is better.  Remember we’re all family here in Littlestown.
Just when the leaves change, so do our programs.  Did you miss some of our fantastic summer events?  Don’t frown, come to town!  Each month, we give you a reason to “Rise and Shine” in the morning, followed by an “Afternoon Blast” to make your day last.  Our new Super 2nd Saturday is the champion of all programs, faster than a speeding e-book, more powerful than any video game, able to leap into your imagination in a single book.  Look! Down the street!  It’s a book, it’s a game, it’s a movie, and science experiments won’t be the same.  Yes, it’s your Littlestown Library – the place to be for you and me!  Want to know more?  Come, sign-up for our September 13th kickoff of the Super 2nd Saturday events!
What else is new, just for you? Come dance down Queen Street, or King Street, and let’s make Littlestown a toddler’s town. Starting in mid-September, bring your toddlin’ tots to our Tiny Tots Time for stories and playtime. Meet new families, make new friends and share your best tips and advice for those “terrible twos.”
Remember, it’s you, it’s me and the whole family who make the Littlestown Library the place to be.  Come visit us at 232 S. Queen Street, Littlestown PA 17340 or give us a call (717) 359-0446.

In case you missed the Good Ole Days Parade, here are some photos of the Friends' library float (complete with our mad scientist, Ms. Val) and the KPETS Reading with Dogs booth!  We are very grateful for all the friendly faces who helped make this possible.  Thank you very much, and we hope you enjoy the view!

Good Ole Days Surprises!

The 2014 Good Ole Days means fun and excitement for our patrons and families.  We'll be in the parade and at the community part celebrations.  Come see us and our surprises!

Mad Scientist, Bubbles, and Dogs in the Parade!

Thursday, August 14 @ 6-7 pm, our very own mad scientist shares her crazy bubbles, tricks and laughs on board the Friends of the Littlestown Library's float.  Be sure to watch for Ms. Valli's special wave for you!

Our "Dog Days of Summer" are so much fun that we're bringing the dogs and companions on board the float too!  Look for Meeko, her handler Wendi, and her pals as our summer reading champs read with them.

Meet Meeko , Wendi and Friends at Community Park!

On Saturday, August 16 @ 9.30 am-1.30 pm, come meet our 'read to' dogs and their handlers at the Community Park celebrations. Meeko is hoping her friend, Gambler, can tag along.  See what it's like to read your favorite book to your new furry pal.

"Shocking" Dog Days of Summer with Littlestown Library!

“Shocking” Dog Days of  Summer with Littlestown Library!
In summertime, reading is easy with your friends at the Littlestown Library.  From “Shocking” science shows to summer’s frisky “Dog Days”, kids of all ages share laughter and fun.   Books for the beach, tunes for a road trip, graphic novels for reading into the night (no school!), your Littlestown Library has many free delights (except ice cream cones).
When summer heats up, come relax with our furry friends.  Learn about dog safety, care and games through our monthly programs with KPETS.  Meet our frisky gal pal Meeko and her handler, and become comfortable, safer and wiser in the ways and life of dogs.
Add a bit of “Fizz, Boom, Pop” to your sunny days with our 2014 Summer Reading Program!  In June, the Library became truly “Shocking” with the Whitaker Center’s exciting electrical wizardry.  Next, we got all “Geared Up” with Bricks 4 Kidz and real hands-on building with blocks, gears and more.
July brings more screaming fun  – from Bug Man and his incredible insects, to the “Science of Magic” that may mystify you and “Zoom, Zoom, Fizz” storytelling with science fun.   Love kids’ faces?  Come to “Button-making”, make a happy grin and delight mom or grandma with your adorable face on a button, complete with bragging rights.  Science in the summer winds down with a bang – science experiments that amaze and inform.  Be surprised at how much fun science experiments can be and maybe a little bit of learning will fizz up too.
Reading your summer days away can be very rewarding – free prizes and books for the kids, and Book Bingo awards for adults.   Kids in the Summer Reading Club can earn a fun incentive free each week by reading for 2 or more hours each week.  Weeks 4 and 8 of the program are extra special  - a free book is available to youngsters who meet the reading goals.  Adults can have fun too, by reading their way through the own Book Bingo card.  Each Bingo win gives you a chance at the superb surprises available from the Adult Summer Reading Club at your Littlestown Library and other member libraries of the Adams County Library System.
As summer leaves and autumn arrives, watch for new ideas and new programs – Tiny Toddler Storytime and an amazing cornucopia of computer classes.  Whether you are a new parent, want to meet local toddler families, bring your toddle into the world of reading, please visit Littlestown Library.
Frantic with Facebook?  Stuck trying to tabulate with your new tablet?  Lost in the wilds of Windows 8?  Computer classes return this fall. We’ll start with Internet and Word basics, move onto technology and tools.  Have ideas for topics, or  a  new device to explore?   Stop by and add your suggestions to our fall class plans.
Open the door to your summer at the Littlestown Library, 232 N. Queen Street, Littlestown, PA 17340 or call (717) 359-0446. Open 2pm-8pm Tuesday and Thursday; noon-6pm Wednesday and Friday; 10am-4pm Saturday.
